Finding Alignment
by Marc Frey
Have you ever felt like there are
not enough hours in the day? There are so many things waiting to be
accomplished, things on your to-do list.
Especially in today’s western society we often tend to think that the
more we can accomplish in a set amount of time, the better it is for us.
While this may be true in some cases, it can also lead to a phenomenon
that many of us are only too familiar with: Stress. We are in a constant
battle between what we’d like to do and what we have to do.
Ask yourself the following and write the answer down on a piece of
paper: What are the 5 things you really enjoy most? Then ask yourself
the following question and do the same thing: What are the 5 things you
spend most of your time on?
If the two lists perfectly match, you should congratulate yourself and
continue to do what you’re doing. If on the other hand you find out that
there is a mismatch, you may want to investigate whether there is an
opportunity to bring the two lists more in alignment. Sometimes we spend
time on things that, after considering the impact of dropping them,
could be eliminated and substituted by things on your “love-to-do” list.
